Understanding the differences between LCD, LED and DLP projectors

Projectors are incredible devices which are ideal for giving lectures to classrooms, making presentations in offices and watching movies or videos. These devices are available in many kinds of models, qualities, prices and sizes. But they are broadly classified into three main types and they are LCD, LED and DLP.  These three categories are basically three different technologies used to design projectors these days. If you are thinking of buying a projector anytime soon, then you must first understand the differences between them and they are given as follows.

DLP Projectors

DLP Projectors rely on the DLP chip or a digital micro mirror device or DMD. Such a projector can deliver up to 35 million colors and requires less maintenance than Video LCD projector VA. They have a filter free and sealed chip design which means that dust simply cannot accumulate and cause damage. These projectors also offer the benefit that they are not subject to the misalignments which occur in LCD models. But at the same time, these projectors with slower color wheels may give a rainbow effect which is unpleasant. Their poor viewing range is also a disadvantage.

LCD Projectors

These projectors make use of the 3 LCD technologies which is a patented system which combines three liquid crystal displays. LCD technology has been around since the 1980s but is still very reliable and more than the film projectors available these days. They require maintenance since the pixels can burn out and dust particles may interfere with the quality of the images being displayed. But as a positive, such projectors do not have moving parts like the DLP projectors and are less expensive than their DLP counterparts.  They are ideal for support setups in bigger size rooms in which a greater projection distance is needed. They are compatible with zoom lenses and lens shift.

LED projectors

LED projectors are not defined by the display technology used but rather by the lighting.  It can be safe to say that DLP projectors with solid state illumination technology are actually LED projectors. LED projectors are known to have a longer life than most projector lamps which are rated at about 10000 to 2000 hours in comparison to 1000 to 5000 hours.  Led light source in such projectors are meant to last for an entire life and do not need to get replaced.  This is a definite advantage over other kinds of projectors mentioned above.  Another benefit of these projectors is that there is no warm up or cool down time because these projectors are more energy efficient and hence little maintenance and operating costs are needed.

Besides the technology used, there are a few other differences between these three projectors as well. LCD projectors are typically less expensive for smaller venues like home theatres and have a longer throw distance and better Zoom capability.  On the other hand, DLP projectors do not suffer color decay which LCD projectors do. DLP projectors with LED technology are simpler, more affordable and better value for money. No matter which one you choose, you can get them all at League Technologies and those too at the most affordable rates. Here you can find several Epson projector models including Epson PowerLite 1776W projector as well.
